KATE Pavao

Picture
Executive Director, Live Like Coco Foundation
Kate Pavao is the executive director of the Live Like Coco Foundation, which she founded in 2015 after her daughter Coco Lazenby was killed in a car accident at age 12. Her foundation helps kids in Santa Cruz County have opportunities to grow up healthy and with opportunities to pursue their dreams. Live Like Coco delivers more than 5,000 new books to kids on their birthdays, provides scholarship funding for theatre, horseback riding and other activities, and launched a new field trip program that takes local kids to experience the forest. Kate has a bachelor’s degree in women’s studies from University of California Santa Cruz and a master’s degree from Columbia University School of Journalism. She has spent nearly two decades as a freelance writer, where she has written extensively about children's and young adult literature.
