Won’t you be our ParkFriend?
An invitation to inspiration
By Mariah Roberts
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'” -Mr Fred Rogers
Mr Rogers’ reminded us to notice the good and possibility in our complex world. County Park Friends holds this approach central to our work. We’ve learned from experience that “the helpers” in our parks are vast, and they are a force to be reckoned with. We can't be in every one of the 50 or so County Parks every day. But you all ARE!
We’ve seen the power that a passionate group of committed volunteers can bring to a project like LEO’s Haven Inclusive Playground. We know the dedication it took for neighbors to create the Chanticleer Bike Pump Track. We see the results of the partnership to fund the bathroom at the Polo Grounds. The list goes on...and on.
We invite you to share your stories with us. We bet you have seen one of Mr Rogers’ “helpers” in action at a County Park. You likely are one yourself! Each of these projects, groups and success stories offers lessons and is a model of inspiration, leadership and support. We want to learn from you, collect your examples of success, and share them with others. Be our ParkFriend!
