Drowning is a leading cause of death for all kids; minorities aged 5-19 drown 5.5 times more than whites. The CDC reports lack of swim lessons is a primary reason for the disparity. In 2020, we are piloting an expansion and redesign of our Learn-To-Swim scholarship program to tackle this.
Partnered with community, we are assessing needs, co-designing process and delivery and measuring impact to inform future impact. We thank County Parks, Simpkins Swim Center, ParkRx, Cradle To Career, SC Health Centers, and Community Bridges for helping inform this pilot.
